Nahum Madrid, aka DJ 8mil, was born in Victoria, Texas and raised in a small southern town called Four Oaks in North Carolina. He began deejaying at the age of 15. Born to immigrant parents from Los Alamos, Chihuahua and Muzquiz, Coahuila, Mexico; they instilled in him the meaning manual labor and on the flipside of the tortilla the importance of an education.

His interest in music and radio led him to pursue a career in Radio & TV Broadcasting. He graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Electronic Media/Broadcasting, simultaneously becoming the most requested local party, private event and nightclub DJ in the region. He also developed an interest in documentary film-making during his studies. Growing up he was amazed by animal documentaries about ants and intrigued by news magazines like 20/20 and Nightline.

As a DJ, he mixes Jay-Z vocals over cumbia just to piss people off, wears ostrich skin botas with Element Skateboards T-shirts, listens to country music on the drive to work, norteño skids during lunch and jams Techno beats on the way home. He’s a real weirdo.

His first car was a junker and his current car is a junker; he has no aspirations to be “ghetto fabulous.” He just wants his lawn to be green, for Mexicans to go to school and vote, and for music to be healthy (free of blin blineo) so that songs can be a rolling time capsules for everyone just like they have been for him.
