Born of a Bolivian mother and a Brazilian father in a Dominican neighborhood of New York City, DeLatorre grew up as a multicultural mutt surrounded by music. The first concert he ever attended was his father’s Brazilian jazz band before he could even walk. Growing up in that environment he was exposed to bossa nova, Brazilian MPB, and Latin Jazz, and it was exactly during a rehearsal that he first fell in love with the drums.

Delatorre’s family moved around like gypsies on the run and at the age of five he went to live in Brazil. At the age of twelve, he trained to enter the local foosball tournaments but was never able to get the coveted gold cup due to a hang nail injury. Like Rocky, he trained with heavy metal music and since then things haven’t been the same for him. The fast and heavy drumming combined with the flair and theatrics of bands like Iron Maiden helped him realize what he wanted to do instead, eventually forming and joining several local rock bands in the following years.

At age 19 he moved to the melting pot that is Miami, where he graduated from Florida International University. Soon after he joined the corporate world and moved to North Carolina where he found himself imprisoned in the 9 to 5 world. When he couldn’t take it anymore he found his salvation at small growing company that breathed music called Batanga. At Batanga Radio he is known as DJ Delatorre where he makes sure that every listener, no matter where they are, is always getting the best quality music, first.
